Remnants

A conjoined couple,
hacked apart.
And how is this so?
To hold on,
while the other half
simply
lets go.

And for all these years-
A summation:
life is nothing but wind,
time
and memories.
A conclusion:
when events occur
that is when you know
you are truly alive and kicking.

To see, to breathe,
to run with ferocity.
With eyes closed,
mind wide open.

And when I think I have gone a distance,
I know
I will be right where I started from.
Looking up the pieces of past lives.
Investigating the puzzle.
Tossing out the transitional bits.
The emotional fluff.
Cleaning up the icing of wedding cakes.

Falling apart,
I am.
I know it.
The bones tell me so.
They've stopped yielding the weight
a long time ago.

Over.
What more can I do?
Keep on breathing and taking in air,
not wind.
Sit and watch the future beach itself-
Desperately struggling to get back into the warmth.

Tightly shut up that little shut in.
Bounded and married to the memories-
I sing to you love songs of the past.
And string up a new life.
